The Sales & Marketing Plan

The Sales & Marketing Plan is a critical step in writing a business plan.  This section demonstrates to the reader your ability to perform on the financial forecast you have submitted within the business plan. It consists of a detailed and concrete plan that, once funding has been secured, is ready to take the Company to market swiftly. Items that should be thoroughly detailed include:

  • Will you create a Direct Sales force? If so:
    • How will you hire?
    • Compensation?
    • Location. Central or geographically dispersed?
    • Lead generation programs?
    • Sales Process creation?
    • Sales messaging?
    • Sales and lead tracking for accountability?
    • Marketing support?
  • Advertising?
    • Where?
    • Costs?
    • Targeted demographics?
    • Expected returns and ROI?
  • Direct Mail?
    • Where?
    • Costs?
    • Targeted demographics?
    • Expected returns and ROI?
  • Partnering Opportunities?
  • Channels of Distribution?

Your investor/lender will be looking to see if you have a detailed go to market strategy in place prior to funding.
